Built for the people who run it.
The library’s catalogue lived in spreadsheets. We designed and built a website where anyone can see what the library holds, read and listen online, and ask to borrow a printed book, then moved the whole catalogue into it.
The people who add books are not developers, so the admin panel is in Kurdish, each entry is one short form, and a new book is on the site about a minute after it is saved. There is no server and no database to look after. The only running cost is the domain name.
Live · Library
A library that opens in Kurdish.
The home page leads to every section: printed books, PDFs, audio books, the gallery, a form for authors who want the union to print their work, and the way to the library itself. Every page is set right to left in Noto Naskh Arabic, with its numbers in Eastern Arabic numerals, and works the same on a phone.

Live · Printed books
Every printed book, one request away.
The catalogue lists 888 titles by subject: history, politics, health, literature and art, and research, with a separate list of 102 books by women authors. A visitor searches by title or author, presses the request button and sends the library a phone number and how long they want the book.

Live · PDF and audio
Read it here, or listen.
The PDF shelf holds 84 books that open in the browser, sorted into history, poetry, novels, memoir, magazines, research and women’s issues. Audio books sit on the same kind of card and play on YouTube or from chapters the library uploads.
